Birthday Dinner (minus electricity!)

Jon and Kylie spent the week in Washington and are on their way back (already one delay, could be a late night!).

Enter crazy storms into the picture in the early morning of Sophie's birthday. Thankfully our house and yard were unscathed (thanks for the MANY calls, texts, and emails expressing concern!) and except for a panicked birthday girl crawling into bed with me, all was well. Except this convenience we call power, or lack of! Daycare closed for the day so we hung out and made the best of it.

Yup, a temp reading from DULUTH!!!

I decided to let Sophie choose her bday dinner. She wanted rice. Easy right? Nope. A few caveats to our scavenging for dinner:
- Forgetting that many restaurants couldn't open due to no power
- Most of the stop lights in town weren't working or even standing, causing huge backups (and me being paranoid because people become idiots when traffic signals don't work)
- 30,000 other people without power are also looking for dinner at the same time. At a fraction of the restaurants, of course.

The simple task of finding rice and ice cream took about 90 minutes. At this point my backseat child was on repeat: "riiice? No power. Riiiice? No power". And on and on until I found her rice. She was content.

NASTY mall Chinese food. She literally only wanted the rice :)

We now are enjoying a fully powered house, unlike many still waiting. I am thankful!
