Split Rock State Park

What a day! We packed quite a bit in including the YMCA, washing a car (Jon/Kylie), a birthday party (Kylie), and then a trip up the shore to Split Rock State Park. It was a little cooler than forecasted, but still alright for what we wanted to do.

On our way down to the lake (via a gradual sloping path) and this cracked me up. You can barely see Kylie (100 yards ahead of us at all times, but all three are heads down, butts in the air (two digging for rocks, one tying his shoe!).

A pretty decent family pic, thanks to the random man watching me take a picture of the other three and kindly offering.

Kylie would dig for hours and typically comes home with a pocket (or two or three) full of "gems."

Turns out Sophie could also dig and throw for a long time. We had to whisk both girls away, knowing the dinner hour was impending and we didn't want hangry kiddos. We sort of succeeded.

Kylie insisted we take the direct route back, which instead of a gradual incline, is steady climb. Sophie obliged and completely amazed me by getting to the top all on her own. She never whined or fussed, just kept going. She sighed pretty loud a couple of times which made me laugh, but never asked for help!

Turns out that little climb alone was 171 stairs!

Much more work without the nice railing on the side.

Once we got them into bed, I got busy making a strawberry rhubarb pie. The jury is still out as it's too hot to try tonight, but I didn't put a pan underneath it. My oven is now on the clean cycle due to that dumb mistake. Along with opening windows and pulling the smoke alarms. Gross!

Possibly one of my favorite posts of all time!
